Sunday will be the third Sunday of Lent. Half way through the season. Just when our spiritual disciplines might be testing us mightily, we will hear encouragement along with words of challenge. The encouragement comes in the form of a vision of what awaits us at the end of the journey. A banquet. Abundance. Beauty. The Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill, Kentucky, offers an earthly glimpse of heavenly delight and beauty. The buildings, the furnishings, the arts and crafts of the Shakers were all made masterfully. Their attention to detail and to the disciplines of their crafts demonstrate their focus. They did not allow distractions to interfere. Part of the journey of Lent involves recovering that kind of focus and attentiveness, for the sake of our relationship with God, with one another, and for the beauty and flourishing of our community. Join us on Sunday, to hear good words of encouragement, and strong words to keep you on the journey.
