An icon of Barnabas, the fellow traveler with the Apostle Paul.
Most of us are familiar with the Jewish rite of passage called a Bar Mitzvah, when the adulthood of a 13 year old boy is celebrated, as well as his full membership as a “Son of the Commandment.” What many may not know is that since 1922, girls now have such a celebration and recognition, but at age 12, called a Bat Mitvah, declaring that they have become a “Daughter of the Commandment.” Having celebrated Easter this past Sunday, we are now in the season of Eastertide, during which we continue to celebrate God’s extravagant love. Starting this coming Sunday, we also begin to contemplate what it means to live life in the light of the Resurrection. Barnabas gives us the first insights. Bar-Nabas, “Son of Encouragement.” Join us on Sunday as we hear the beginning of his story, and how he came to be known as a son of encouragement, and our calling to be Sons and Daughters of Encouragement.”
Easter Joy!
