First Presbyterian Church of Urbana, a Member Church of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. and More Light Presbyterians

Mission Giving

But just as you excel in everything–in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us–see that you also excel in this grace of giving.
– 2 Corinthians 8:7

The Grace of Giving

Church mission and outreach projects are funded through four sources: the church budget, special offerings and donations, half of the proceeds from the Twice Is Nice Thrift Shop, and designated mission funds established through member bequests. We also seek grant funds on occasion to extend our mission efforts.

Children and youth are actively involved in mission giving. They are encouraged to contribute to the offering each Sunday. They also engage the congregation in two major giving programs. On the second Sunday of each month the elementary-age youth collect coins in soup cans for the “Can Do” offering during worship, which provides over $1,000 each year to support our food ministry. The youth of the church also collect the “Souper Bowl” offering each January, providing the funds to a local agency involved in hunger relief.
