God calls us to be careful, humble stewards of this earth, and to protect and restore it for its own sake, and for the future use and enjoyment of the human family.

Caring for the Earth

earth-care-logoCaring for all of God’s creation is a major emphasis of our church. Just as God calls us to care for each other, we also are commanded to care for the earth and all living things.

In 2010, the Environmental Ministries Office of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) invited congregations to participate in an Earth Care Congregations program. Our church became the first congregation in Illinois to gain certification on January 6, 2011.

Certified Earth Care Congregations commit to the Earth Care Pledge and demonstrate sufficient action toward caring for God’s earth in four categories: Worship, Education, Facilities, and Outreach.  Click on the following headings for more information.

Community members are always welcome at earth care events. We invite you to learn more about–and join us!–in caring for the earth. Information on upcoming events can be found on the church calendar (at the top of this page), the Open Door newsletter (under the “News” tab) or by contacting the church office.
