First Presbyterian Church invites you to visit Twice is Nice, a thrift shop located in a graceful old house which the church owns. The shop is open Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Twice is Nice, the not-for-profit thrift shop at 607 West Elm Street, Urbana, seeks a part-time employee who will assist with merchandise organization and shop upkeep.
The shop offers U of I students and other area residents an affordable source of:
- Clothing for infants through adults;
- Housewares including pots, pans, dishes, cutlery, small appliances, and cooking utensils;
- Blankets, sheets and other linens for the bed and bath;
- A large variety of books; CDs; collectibles; games; toys; jewelry; and other lightly used items.
The shop is managed and staffed by volunteers from First Presbyterian Church as a three-fold mission to the community:
Caring for the Earth: We promote responsible environmental stewardship through reuse of items donated to the shop by church members and others in the community. Donations are welcome during shop hours.
Community Support: Half the proceeds from the shop support community social service agencies and organizations. By shopping at Twice Is Nice you are supporting local groups such as: Eastern Illinois Food Bank, Don Moyer’s Boys & Girls Club, Courage Connection, Smile Healthy, and Prosperity Gardens.
Neigborhood Revitalization: The remaining half of the proceeds from the shop are used to restore and maintain the historic Twice Is Nice house. The house, which is located in the historic West Urbana neighborhood, was designed by Midwest architect Joseph Royer, who also designed our second church building.
