You can see it in the painting, “The Hidden Treasure,” by Rembrandt. Shovel in hand, treasures laid in clothes, not yet covered, but will be in a moment. There’s almost the suggestion of haste. Then there is the man’s look over the shoulder. Is anyone watching? Is anyone coming? Is this too good to be true? You’ll recognize The Hidden Treasure as one of the parables Jesus told. It is one of several we will hear on Sunday. The question is this: did Rembrandt get the meaning of the parable right? Join us on Sunday as we contemplate this question, and the scandal of the Gospel.
