From the Pastor/Head of Staff

This coming Sunday, the Second Sunday of Advent, will feature musical excellence. We will be delighted to welcome among our own choir the choir of First Presbyterian Champaign, along with an ensemble of talented and experienced instrumentalists. Gerald Finzi said that he was inspired to compose In Terra Pax after hearing bells ringing over an English town on a frosty December night. The piece, composed in 1954 shortly before Finzi’s death, pairs Luke’s account of the first Christmas with the vivid poetry of Robert Bridges. This will perfectly accompany the scripture we will hear on Sunday from Malachi and the Gospel of Luke, as they foretell and announce the coming of the Forerunner, the Herald, the Prophet who would declare that God’s anointed is among us. What better way to celebrate the declaration of Good News than with gorgeous music, inspired by the ringing of bells? See you on Sunday.
