After conferring with our sister congregations in the Interfaith Alliance and Julie Pryde, the Director of the Champaign Urbana Public Health District, our Session has voted to cancel all public services of worship beginning on Sunday, March 15th, and possibly continuing until mid-May. We are doing this in solidarity with doctors, nurses, clinics and hospitals as they work to treat those who have become ill and as our public health officials work to contain the spread of the corona virus.
The church office will continue to produce bulletins, E Reports and the Open Door. Pastor David will stream an abbreviated experience of worship on Sunday, March 15th, by way of Facebook Live and Zoom. Just go to FPCU’s Facebook page at 9:30 am on Sunday. In future weeks, we hope to offer streaming from the church sanctuary.
Small meetings may still be held at church, in groups of 10 or less. If you are ill or if someone in your home is ill, please stay home. When meeting with others, please keep at least a 3 to 6 foot distance from others. There should be no flesh-to-flesh contact.
Our Deacons will be working to keep in touch with people, and we invite everyone to reach out to others, and if you have concerns about someone, please let us know.
We encourage you to continue sending in your pledges, tithes and offerings by mail or electronically, or by dropping them off at the church office. For the time being, we will continue regular office hours.
More information about how to contact the Champaign Urbana Public Health District will be posted soon, along with other sources of accurate information. The corona virus Hotline is: (217) 239-7877.
